At first glance, nothing seems simpler than a ballistic test: you have to shoot at a sheet and then look to see if it held fast. However, things are not always as easy as they seem.
Ballistic tests that are in accordance with EN 1063, take place under ideal conditions, meaning that the speed of projectile, hit distance, impact angle, shot distance, etc., are defined precisely beforehand. The result: it is not reality that is mapped out, but a comparison of products under standardised conditions. In this way, the testing results may be reproduced at any time, they can however only be transferred to factual reality in a limited way.
For this reason, SILATEC recommends that bullet-proof glazing be tested not only in accordance with the standard but also in accordance with individual criteria.
We would be happy to assist you in these matters and also implement the required ballistic testing.
